Winter in TCM:

Many new clients come to me at this time of year because they are affected by what is referred to in the West as ‘Seasonal Affective Disorder’ (SAD), or they suffer from symptoms of low energy, depression and mood swings during the Winter months.

In Chinese medicine this excessive introspection, or an increase in worry, fear and depression is very much associated with the Water element and an imbalance of the Kidney and Bladder energy, and for some people this can become much more acute right now.

I like to share with you some tips on how to keep healthy during the Winter season.

1.Nurturing the Kidneys

During the Winter months it is important to nurture and nourish your Kidney Qi as this is the time where this energy can be most easily depleted. As you age, your Kidney Qi energy also naturally declines, so the older you are, the more susceptible you are to the impact of the Winter months.

Always remember that warm your lower back and Kidney area during the Winter.

Energetic health practices, such as qigong or yoga, which encourage the flow of Qi energy around the body and the warming of the core area, are an excellent way to stimulate and boost your Kidney Qi.

2. Sleep

<<Huangdi’s Canon of Medicine >> says, “during three months in winter, sleep early and get up late”. This means that one should go to bed early and get up late in winter and wait for the sun to come out.

In the cold winter, assure enough sleep time is important, because the winter day short night long, People’s Daily life but also adapting to change laws of nature, moderation, prolong sleep time, just for the sun be the spirit of the human body hidden and Yin fine savings, to conform to the physiological state of the” kidney main essence “.

3. Keep warm

In winter, the climate is cold, cold stagnation, easy to lead to human qi stagnation and blood stasis, and make many old disease recurrence or aggravation. Especially those serious life-threatening diseases, such as stroke, cerebral hemorrhage, myocardial infarction, not only the incidence of a significant increase, but also a sharp rise in mortality. So winter health care should pay attention to cold.

Warm your head, low back and feet.

4. Activities

Winter is the time to slow down and quiet time. We can feed ourselves both physically and spiritually. It is the best opportunities for making time for deeper thought and bringing to the surface any unresolved emotional matters. Acknowledging, owing and creatively addressing the origins of any stress, worries or fears that you may have reflects the self-discovery and self-healing that I work through with my clients:  ‘Find It, Own It, Change It’.

It is good time to practice Qi Gong, Tai Ji, meditation , walking, reading and write time.

To do these exercise, can make the body utmost absorb the vitality of nature, be helpful for human body to adopt true qi, fill nourish zang-fu.
